MEET THE TEAM: 5 Minutes with Holly

Updated: Dec 6, 2021

Second up in our ‘Meet the Team’ blog series is Holly, social media superstar and organisational whiz. Get to know her and we think you’ll love her just as much as we do...

Tell us about yourself and how you found yourself part of Neighbourhood:

I’m a 20-year-old recent graduate from Victoria University. The past three years have taught me so much having moved across the country at 17 to find my feet and explore where life could take me. I studied Spanish and Sociology with a minor in Social Policy. People fascinate me, the way we build our societies and communities and what we choose to place value on. I’ve been following Maddie for quite some time now as I love her vibe and everything she represents. When I saw the opportunity to be involved in Neighbourhood I was intrigued; looking for something more to work on as I left uni and began my life in the real world.

Describe yourself in three words:

Passionate, creative and ambitious

Do you have any significant goals or projects for 2021?

A huge goal and focus for me this year is personal development. I’m at a time in my life where I have the opportunity to really explore all my options, discover more of what sets my soul on fire.

What is a cause/issue/movement that you feel passionately about?

I am extremely passionate about sustainability and environmental issues. It is a huge driver for life decisions and I hope to include this in my future career.

Who or what has influenced the most?

Honestly probably growing up with a single mum as an only child. We struggled financially a lot and seeing the ways in which my mum coped with our situation as well as what she chose to prioritise really impacts my life now in terms of my goals and what I want for myself and my future.

If someone I love is down, I cheer them up by...

Trying to understand what they need in the situation and how they could best cope.

Somewhere that you’ve never been to in Aotearoa that you’d like to visit?

It’s cliche but Queenstown. I’ve never been or even seen much of the South Island in general so I’d really love to at some point (hopefully in the near future).

Something that relaxes me when I’m feeling stressed is...

Journaling. Just getting everything out of my head and onto paper.

What is something you’re grateful for?

Living on the Kapiti Coast. I love being so close to the beach and having the ability to go to my happy place anytime.

The last thought that kept you awake at night was…

Feeling unsure of where to go from here now that I’ve finished uni. I’m just not really sure what I truly want to do or where my path is going.

Do you have any strange or completely irrational fears?

It’s really weird but things to do with bodies. I can’t touch my belly button or have my eyebrows brushed backwards, things like that lol.

My idea of heaven is...

Living by the beach and being able to wake up every morning to have a morning swim before the rest of the world wakes up.

What is something you’re excited about at the moment?

My 21st birthday coming up! A lot of my closest friends and family will be coming down from Auckland for it and I’m just so excited for all my loved ones to be in the same place.

Favourite song on your playlist right now?

The Green Superintendent by Mako Road.
