SPEAK EASY PHILOSOPHY:
Speak Easy is our pioneering platonic speed dating style event where anyone is welcome to meet new friends, share in conversation, play jenga and experience a safe, creative social environment.
Our “Conversation Cheat Sheets” are prepared in advance and act as a safety net to guide the conversation, avoiding anxiety about what to say, but also providing space for players to interpret these questions with humor, depth, simplicity or profundity.
We often swim in the same circles, so Speak Easy provides a tangible space to meet new people, or learn more about old friends. Ask Neighbourhood NZ's curated list of questions and initiate witty, introspective conversation as you pull or place Jenga blocks.

How it works

Speak Easy features multiple table settings where small groups of 2-8 people gather around, with a jenga stack in the middle. Using our “Conversation Cheat Sheets” each player takes turn to answer a question listed, pulling a Jenga block afterwards. The questions are prepared in advance and act as a safety net to guide the conversation, avoiding anxiety about what to say, but also providing space for players to interpret these questions with humor, depth, simplicity or profundity. With the Jenga game in the middle, it is a social scenario designed to have the focus off the individual, and towards the collective. The design of Speak Easy is intricately designed with social anxiety in mind - something that almost all of us experience - but something that shouldn’t remain a barrier to the benefits of human connection.
It proved to us the demand for spaces like these and how the art of meaningful conversation is truly a muscle that you can train.
